Biography:
Annie Pearl was born in 1874 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the 3rd child of Frank and Delina Reinert. Her early life was likely difficult as her father tragically died in a factory accident when she was 8 years old. Her mother was 9 months pregnant at the time and undoubtedly the older children in the family had to grow up quickly. There was no social security at the time and one can only imagine how a fatherless family with 5 young children could support itself. Pearl was married at age 16 to George Tupper; daughter Inez was born later that year. George died fairly suddenly of TB of the brain in 1913, when Pearl was 39 years old. She was left a widow with children still at home. In 1920, she was listed as head of household in Sheboygan with her two youngest sons and newly married daughter Estella and son-in-law Folmer. At some point between 1928 and 1930 she moved to Detroit, along with son Warren. There is mention of her in the Sheboygan Press as late as June 1928 (recitiation in program for Children’s Day event) and the first mention of her living out of town comes 8/4/1930 when an article states “Mrs. Pearl Tupper, and son Warren, of Detroit, Michigan, are visiting this city”. Her daughter Inez and husband Samuel Krainbrink were living in Detroit Michigan before 1920, so that is likely the reason she moved there. Pearl ran the Krainbrink confectionary. She died in 1933 at age 59 of breast cancer with metastasis or spread to the lung and liver.
