Article from the Edgerton Reporter, Dec.29 1960. George was the Chief of Police from 1933 until 1960. A tribute from then-Mayor, Arnold Wikum: I have served on the Council four years as Alderman from the first ward and almost three years as Mayor, and I have worked with Police Chief Sweeney and have this to say, that he is devoted to his work. His years of experience has taught him methods of handling the public. You never see him losing his temper, he is always polite and cordial. If anything has gone wrong he spends endless hours to solve it. With children he is one step ahead of them but they don’t know it. The parents need not worry of his attitude or his method of handling them. His record stands: no major problem has happened in Edgerton. Sure some less in size and kid pranks. Also, he has the taxpayer at heart when operating his department.
