Born: Sept. 1853, Sheboygan Co. Wisconsin

 

Parents: Berent Graven and Aleida Snoeyenbos

 

Siblings: Arend Jan (1841-1922),  Hendrik,  Gerhardus,  Gesiena (1847-sometime between 1870-1880),  Hendrika  (1852-1939),  Aleida (1856-1950)

 

Marriage: 12/24/1878, Sheboygan Co, WI to Minnie Te Grotenhuis

 

Children: Benjamin (1880-1934), Tillie (1886-?), Lida

 

Death: 1/24/1935 Oostburg, WI

 

From the Sheboygan Press, Jan. 25, 1935:

Oostburg- Garret Graven, aged 81, well known resident of the Town of Holland, passed away Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at his home at Oostburg following a lingering illness. Mr. Graven, a life-lomg resident of this community, was born in the Town of Holland on Sept. 27, 1854. His marriage to Miss Minnie Te Grotenhuis took place at Cedar Grove Dec. 24, 1878. From that time until twenty one years ago when Mr. Graven retired from farm life, Mr. and Mrs. Graven and family lived on the Graven homestead, southwest of Oostburg, and now known as the Henry Nyhof farm.

Mr. Graven was vice-president of the Oostburg State Bank from the time of it’s organization in March, 1908, until January, 1914, when he was elected president in which capacity he served for one year. He was a bank director continuously from March 1908 until March 1931, when he resigned because of ill health. For many years he also served on the school board of District 3 and as assessor for the Town of Holland. Although he was not a member of any church, he lived a good christian life.

Survivors are his wife and two daughters (at this point the scanned article becomes illegible)….
