From the Baldwin Centenial Historical album:
“On January 8, 1874 the Presbyterian Church was organized from this congregation (a congregation formed of all denominations and nationalities), with the following charter members: G. J. Heebink and wife, Garret Heebink and wife, Englebert Heebink, Harmen Vrieze and wife, Elizabeth Vrieze, Wilhemina Westerndorp, Garret John Hitkamp, Lambert Vrieze, Gerhardus Hendrikus Doornink, John William Doornink and wife, Guerdina Hendrika Vrieze, Herman Heebink, Johanus C. Wernlund and wife,…”
“After Garret John’s death, Johanna Sr. lived with her daughter Johanna and George for a time in their home south of Baldwin. Later they moved to Baldwin into what was the old Norby house. Here Johanna kept a small boarding house.
Later Johanna married Mr. Neal Beaton. He was a photographer and built an establishment in Hammond where they lived for several years.
Johanna, Sr. then took turns in living with her sons. She was in extremely poor health and suffered greatly from rheumatism. She was unable to walk for seven years and became helpless as a child. On October 20, 1898 she passed away.
She had been a kind, sympathetic, mother but because of her high strung, nervous temperament and emotional nature, she was bound to suffer greatly during a period when hardships were plentiful. ”
Taken from “History of the St. Croix Valley”, published in 1909: E. B. Heebink was born at Aalten, Holland, July 13, 1849, a son of Garrett John and Johannah (Snoeyenbos) Heebink, natives of that country. His parents came to America in 1854 and located at Oostburg, Holland township, Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, where they bought thirty acres of land and built a house, also conducting a general store from 1855 to 1861. In 1866 they sold their original thirty acres and two years later purchased eighty acres more in the same township. They broke all the land, erected buildings and carried on a general farming until 1872, when they sold out. They came to Hammond, Wis., the following year and acquired ten acres of land, upon which they constructed a beautiful home, where they resided until their death, the father passing away in 1887.
