I started researching my family in 1998, and has been my passion ever since. I hope you can find some information to connect my family to yours. It's always nice to meet new cousins!

Misc: Mathias’ younger brother, Mathias Wilhelm, first came to America in 1847. After settling in Ashford, they sent for their families to come to the US from Germany. Mathius and his wife, Anna, and their 4 sons came to the US along with several other Hall family members. From the Hall Family History, “The voyage was an ordeal. The ship they traveled on was full, but since they paid so well, the captain let them on, and they stayed the entire voyage on the deck, through all the elements. It is said they lost between 2-4 children on the voyage. Each family was required to bring all their own food and clothing/bedding for warmth.
This group arrived in NY around Sept 1st 1848 and then arrived in Sheboygan around Oct. 1st. They then walked for almost 3 weeks to Ashford, carrying all their belongings on their back. Many were atill sick and weak from the long voyage. When they reached Ashford it was almost November, and winter was on the way. Mathius Wilhelm, having arrived first, had built a two room log cabin, but did not have room for his entire family. Mathius and Anna constructed a makeshift type of wigwam out of tree branches and blankets, and quilts to shelter shelter them from the tempest of Wisconsin winter. The winter was not as harsh as a typical winter, but one must remember that they were not use to this kind of living. They lived on rabbits and other small animals they trapped and killed. Anna Mouringer Hall found a number of edible plants, such as burdock, and chickory and ground them up for her family. The only way she knew if the herbs were poisonous was to feed them first to the cat, and if the cat lived, she would feed it to the family.
