Robert was a 1947 graduate of Beloit High School. He attended Carthage College, Carthage, IL and Loras College, Dubuque, IA, and graduated from Milton College, Milton, WI. He worked at Beloit Corporation briefly, where he met his beloved wife, Ruth, whom he married in Beloit , WI on July 11, 1959 at St. Thomas Catholic Church. He began his teaching career in the early 1960’s at Orfordville high school, where he taught math and political science. He later established his own business, Bel-Rock drywall, which two of his sons and wife now operate.

Robert was a great athlete. He played football, basketball and baseball at Milton college. He also played for various Beloit baseball teams, before signing a minor league contract with the Washington Senators system. While in college and between, he traveled extensively, playing baseball and basketball for the old “House of David” teams which were operated out of Beloit by Beloiter “Dutch” Witte. While serving in the Air Force military, during the Korean war, as a medical technician, he traveled widely, playing on a championship basketball team from his home base in Okinawa.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and four sons and one daughter, ten grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. He was predeceased by his parents, Orlando and Barbara Mauel, sister Phyllis R. Mauel and infant sister Maryann Mauel.                                 Robert was a prayerful, spirtual man, very devoted to his catholic faith, his wife, family and grandchildren. He operated his business on the principes of fairness, honesty and excellence.                                                                                                             He will be greatly missed by family and friends. However knowing his life and his last days, we feel confident he is now in the arms of his lord and savior, Jesus Christ who he loved so much. So long for now, Robert, but not goodbye, for we will see you again.
